NEWSFLASH: On Friday 13th March 2009 we became the proud owners of As Petas! The adventure begins...
We are only two.
We can only do what two can do,
but what two can do we will do together.
We are Tim and Nicky Jarman. We know nothing about farming, we speak almost no Spanish, and we are making our dream come true... on a Spanish smallholding!
We are dreamers hoping to become realists. Our little paradise is in the green heart of Galicia, in the north-west corner of Spain: a traditional granite-built farmhouse with five acres of land, a well and the most beautiful views we have ever seen. (We now have a small image gallery.) In order to get there, we will be leaving not only Kent but the nine-to-five world which is really all we have known so far.
In taking this (bold or crazy) step we have drawn inspiration from John Seymour, whom we have shamelessly paraphrased above. We want to grow our own food, raise our own animals, honour the land and the seasons, and live as human beings were meant to live rather than as battery animals. We love life, laughter, poetry, music and the company of friends, and we want to share this with others too.
From this, it follows naturally that we will be offering accommodation as well as just running a smallholding. Galicia is an undiscovered jewel (except amongst the Spanish!) and we are sure that others will be as inspired by its beauty, peace and cheap wine as we have been. We would also love to see our farm become a venue for artistic, spiritual or just social gatherings.
This is just the beginning, and we haven't even moved out there yet let alone got established! As our dream evolves, so will this site, so do watch this space. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
